About Rogue Lineage :
This game exemplifies player choice and emergent gameplay almost perfectly. You can turn this into a strategic puzzle game by playing hacker and thief and other passive classes, or a Hotline Miami style action game by putting on a few health modifiers and playing as the soldier or other combat classes (which still allows you to earn unlocks). Each class has a very distinct style and it’s not just limited to “fight” and “don’t fight” playstyles as there’s a huge spectrum of actions you can take to try and survive your run. It’s very rare these days that a game surrenders itself to you and just lets you play whatever way you want and acknowleges it as a valid way to play. You can probably cheese this game because of that, but the game is so fun that I’ve never been compelled to do that. Lastly…the dude has faithfully updated the game regularly with free content and bug fixes for years consistently. Support the game! Started from nothing at the bottom of the slums. Worked my way up past stuck-up goons, psycho cannibals, and the high and mighty upper crusters, I a humble soldier, got to the mayor village. It spent a minor lifetime, all in one go from the very bottom, having come close to death at least half a dozen times (including 1 HP one time), but all thwarted by preparation and excellent defensive items. Even once I died, before I remembered I had resurrection. My heart was pounding. I had to focus. One slip up, it’s all over. I had acquired a cyanide pill some ways back. And I wasn’t going to waste it on just anybody. I was patient. And I waited. And then I saw the mayor and his huge posse. I failed this task last time. Not so now. I shoved the cyanide pill into the vent, and watch as the fearful and incompetent authoritarian turned into pink sludge. I casually walked inside, and adorned the hat. That’s how I became mayor. But now it’s your turn. How do you plan on doing it? This game has everything you could every possibly want in one and more. If you are even remotely interested in this game, buy it for your own sake. I haven’t come across anything like it, and for one of the most complex, interesting emergent games ever, it’s even more impressive that it was for the most part developed by one guy. So yeah, unless you’re a gaming philistine and need the shiniest, prettiest graphics or else you’ll die, go in and have a blast. Each playthrough is vastly different. I just completed the game and I don’t think I’ve even uncovered like half of what this game has to offer, and none of it is filler. It’s all phenomenal, truly. Get it.
